I got an email this morning from the NNA regarding my TEA (Trusted Enrollment Agent) status. It read:

“Congratulations for successfully completing an Online Tutorial for the Trusted Enrollment Agent (TEA) program of the National Notary Association!

As a result, your name will be placed in the TEA Directory, and in the near future, you will become eligible to earn income for assignments with the digital credential-issuing company whose ID-proofing procedures you have just mastered.”

—————-
It’s that last part: “… procedures you have just mastered.” that isn’t true. I passed the test. But I have not yet done an assignment as a Trusted Enrollment Agent. So I can’t honestly say that I have “mastered” anything.

It’s like when you passed your road test to get your driver’s license. You were licensed to drive, but you hadn’t mastered any driving skills. That comes with years and years of experience. And you will learn something new about driving each time you get behind the wheel. Road and traffic conditions will vary, the way your vehicle responds will vary, … etc.

I intend to review the material from the TEA courses. Hopefully I will be able to perform my duties as a Trusted Enrollment Agent with some degree of proficiency.

And I want to thank the NNA for the compliment. But, the truth be told, until I have done many assignments, I really haven’t “mastered” anything.

As you can see, there is nothing to see.

I’m on a dirt road, which is typical for many of the roads out here. Amazingly my Garmin Mobile 20 had no trouble determining where to make the turn. I thought about all of the closings that I have done in the past in remote locations of Colorado where a GPS would have come in handy. Especially at night when it’s almost impossible to see where to make a turn.

Now I have a ‘bring it on’ attitude. I’m ready to go just about any place.

I’m scheduled to do a Reverse Mortgage closing tomorrow morning. I did a search on the internet for the answer to a question I had about reverse mortgages and I came across this PDF file: Training for Wells Fargo Reverse Mortgage.

Notary signing agents will perhaps find this document helpful since it not only explains what a reverse mortgage is, but it also outlines some of the common mistakes that are made, and how to avoid them.

Good luck.

I had a closing a couple of nights ago in Calhan that involved a non-borrowing spouse. As I was preparing for the closing and going through the loan documents I noticed that her name was not on a few of the documents that the non-borrowing spouse normally signs: the Truth in Lending, Itemization of Amount Financed, and the Right to Cancel.

Notary signing agents don’t know all of the details of the loan, so I called the title company to find out why her name was not on the documents. As it turned out, the person at the title company told me that the husband did not file a Declaration of Homestead, so there was no need for the wife to sign those documents.
